After four years of litigation, two arbitration awards totaling $228 million and a public relations blitz that has seen the firm’s lawyers appear on network television shows such as 60 Minutes and The Good Wife, the case between Morgan & Morgan and AT&T is finally over.
The final resolution came on December 14th when Judge Vaughn Walker of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia approved a proposed settlement in which AT&T agreed to pay Morgan & Morgan $184 million in attorneys’ fees and a $32 million jury verdict interest credit. The remaining amount of $40 million will be paid out in 12 annual installments starting in 2018.
Commenting on the resolution, John Morgan said, “This is an important victory for our clients and for consumers who need to protect their rights online.” In fact, according to one estimate, this case could end up costing AT&T more than $1 billion.
This isn’t the end though for John Morgan and his team at Morgan & Morgan. They are already hard at work preparing another lawsuit against another large company. According to one industry observer, “This is a law firm that is not going away any time soon.”
